funny question
curious...when you see this word:

mira

do you think it would sound like mee-rah or my-rah?

do you think the i would need some sort of funny accent to make it sound like ee? or is it fine the way it is?

(maybe puppy's name!)

I think of Mye-rah because I'm from Nova Scotia and there's a river called The Mira here pronounced Mye-rah. Also that Anne Murray song, "Song for the Mira."

But in Spanish Mee-rah (Mira) is "look!" (like, "look at at that!") so I think you can get away with it!

Oh, in Spanish it would be mee-RAH, but whatever!

I was thinking of the song "Out on the Mira", but yeah what Sarah said.

I have a friend who spells her name Meera.

i'll have to take a listen to that song now

i thought of spelling it out as meera, but i just really like the look of the i (plus i have a thing for 4-letter names, being lucy and all!)

I would think it's mee-ra, not my-rah... and I think it's cute!

i didn't even think of her!
it starting to sound as though it can be pronounced either way. part of me was hoping i would need a fancy accent over the i, but i don't think so anymore

oh good! i wasn't even sure if it was a real name. we just modified a name we liked so that it didn't seem we named our dog after a girl we don't really like (but her name is so so beautiful - nirah)

I remember when we were in England someone was talking about the singer Mira and they always called her "My-rah" but when she came on tour they found out her name was "Mee-rah", so I always assumed the English pronounced the hard I. Like that movie Constantine (it was created by a british person and was supposed to be constan-TYNE, but the movie was changed to constan-TEEN).

I dunno?

I say just go for it.

We were originally calling our cat Molly "Pica" (like the unit of measurement, PY-ca) but I kept thinking of her as Pee-ka, and that's one of the reasons I made up a new name for her.

i am just going to go for it, thanks!
i just wasn't sure if i'd be the only one pronouncing it mee-rah, but it turns out i'm not!

i really like the name pica. it's funny, because i look at it and not for a second do i think pee-ka (which, i agree, is not my favourite). yet, with mira, my first thought is that the i is more like ee...funny

i think we're pretty much decided on Mira, but thanks!
one day i intend on having fish or hamsters or something, that i can give wild names to. i can't let a name as fabulous as "wiglif" go unused for forever...
