i found all of the 90's revival episodes of dark shadows online. i'm fairly excited. i watched a little of it last night. my presentation paper is nearly done, i have some gaps to fill in & then i need to take screen captures of the path and smooth everything over. i have been keeping track of all the quotes i gather from readings here. i don't know how to get rid of that little broken image but i'll mess with that later. the cats are yawning. |

& also, available for preorder, Caketrain issue 07
J.A. Tyler’s teeth still unmarked white, Carol Novack’s pretty pink mouth and porky pink tongue, Sarah Norek’s hair slipping from her skull, a welt carved into Roxanne Carter’s thigh, Alec Niedenthal’s ghostly neck and chin, Matthew Curry’s inside-out torso: the seventh presents a bony, bodily form, a disembodied head above its siblings, and we are powerless to thwart its fleshly will. There are other things, survivors: Darby Larson brings ducks and story-doings, Margaret Frozena and St. Teresa of Ávila begin a duel that gives way to a duet, Matthew Derby wields this rake-like thing—but these bodies, strewn all over the issue, often dismembered, dislocated but ever-ambulant—hover still, cloud a land denuded, peopled. |

Hey Gang,
I'm gearing up for the New People event and am wondering about sumthinsumthin! Would love to know your thoughts!
Pouchy Preference! from Twinkie Chan on Vimeo.
The Gods Who Decide Which Shot to Use for Movie Previews are never kind to me, are they? Sheesh! Snaggletooth much?
I've also been working on my ruffley salad scarflette. Here's where it was at last night. Today I've been building on the ruffles and making them BIGGER! There's almost two skeins of Malabrigo in this sucker right now!!!!

I'm also eager to try making the waffle cowl I've always wanted! I need to pick yarn for it! (Oh no....MORE YARN SHOPPING.....). But I guess having the perfect color and perfect weight and perfect texture are more important to me than using up the old stash. Onward! |

| too soon? |

I don’t know if it is too soon to keep bombarding you with photos of holiday cheer, but I just cannot help myself!
Up there is some egg nog plush with nutmeg and a bit of whipped cream. I’m still going over the whipped cream. Not sure if it is just right or not.
I love egg nog but mostly prefer the Silk version. We saw some last night and we were going to buy it, but we were going out to eat and worried it would get warm in the car meanwhile…but soon soon we will be drinking some!
One of my favorite things about right after Halloween is all the vintage Christmas goodies that start popping up in the thrift shops. I stopped by one shop today and the Christmas section was jam packed with people. I still managed to get the goodies above, but wow-it was crowded! |

| TRIGGER WARNING: VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN |
[Nov. 6th, 2009|12:38 pm] |
Remember back when Marilyn Manson said this?:
I didn't want people to ask me every time I did an interview, "Oh, is this record about your relationship with your ex-girlfriend?" But that damage is part of it, and the song "I Want to Kill You Like They Do in The Movies" is about my fantasies. I have fantasies every day about smashing her skull in with a sledgehammer.
He's made a video acting it out.
No need to watch it, really. But it is HORRIBLE. He beats a woman to death who looks like Evan Rachel Wood, then leaves her bloody, dead body in a bathtub.
HAVE I MENTIONED HOW MUCH I FUCKING HATE OUR STUPID CULTURE??
BECAUSE IT IS A LOT. |

http://bitsandbobbins.com/2009/11/06/mighty-mai/ http://bitsandbobbins.com/?p=905
mai, a friend from my san francisco days and the powerhouse behind the fabulous bay area-based street fashion site fashioni.st has had her style showcased on mighty girl this week, an equally huge bay area blog, as a part of the “mighty closet” series. which is, as far as i can discern, maggie’s celebration of the style of women in her life (?).
anyway, all the ladies featured are fabulous, but mai is my favorite, and not just because she’s a friend…
***
mai is one of the most creative dressers i have ever met. her style is off-the-wall, irreverent, unapologetic, current, futuristic, and retro, all at once. she has an amazing, art-informed eye, and her outfits are like these amazing collages of influences and incredible finds (cheap and not so cheap). to top it all off, she’s wickedly intelligent, a loyal, generous friend, and incredibly confident. she’s not everyone’s cup of tea, especially stylistically, but my my, what a tasty cup of tea she is to those who know her and/or can appreciate her.
mai is an inspiration to me. i miss you mai!
(btw: how friggin amazing is that headband???!!! oh, covet.) |

| Ladies Home Journal, Winter 1940 |
[Nov. 6th, 2009|08:00 am] |
|
http://16sparrows.typepad.com/16sparrows/2009/11/ladies-home-journal-winter-1940.html
Here are the winter-themed LHJ pages I promised you two weeks ago. I hope you find them helpful considering the current weather. The page above is the Sub-Deb column that ran in each LHJ issue and it was targeted to the teens reading this magazine. In a letter to the editor section around July 1940 they published a letter from a teen asking for advise regarding running away. They used this letter to show that the Sub-Deb section was not frivolous as some have commented, so I suppose this editorial was not the favorite of some subscribers! I scanned this particular page because I absolutely love this illustration. it is scenes like this that make me wish so much that I could just step back in time.

There is one of these Line Day pages in each issue. They vary from being very helpful with some great food ideas to being complete gibberish.

Some tips on keeping warm with DIY projects. Once again, why don't modern magazines do this? I really like the flannel slip/underskirt idea; especially considering I have no pants that fit me right now and I'm making due with wool skirts and wool tights this winter!

Lastly, for those into vintage ads, here's one from Kotex. I scanned this one in mainly because I like the girl on the left's outfit. I also like the soda pop shop scene on the bottom left. Hope you enjoy these, more Ladies Home Journal scans coming! |

| An etiquette question |
[Nov. 5th, 2009|07:08 pm] |
If you have a former teacher leave you a voicemail asking if you are coming back, how do you deal with it?
Let me state first that I still adore this teacher and am very good friends with several of the girls in her troupe (in fact, I'm hoping to go to their next performance). It was simply that improv tribal is working better for me than her choreographed folkloric style.
Is there a good way to deal with this? I'd prefer not to simply ignore the voicemail because, as I said, I really do want to go to the troupe performances to support the girls, and I don't want there to be any awkwardness or bad feelings, since that was never the reason I stopped her classes.
Plus, I might want to try her classes again at some future date.
Any advice, other than for me to just put on my Big Girl Bellydance Belt and call her back? :> |

http://www.mypapercrane.com/blog/?p=1376

Things are coming along nicely for my big Holiday update on Nov. 15th. Here are some Christmas ornaments and hot chocolates (with mini marshmallows or plain) I will not be doing a Dec. 1st update…but instead will add everything I have on the 15th and just keep the shop open as long as there are items in it to sell.
I forgot to mention but I am doing two holiday shows this year.
Bazaar Bizarre Boston on Sunday Dec. 6th
and
Handmade Arcade Saturday Dec. 12th in Pittsburgh PA
So December is going to be quite busy! |

[Nov. 5th, 2009|08:39 am] |
i posted a bunch of wedding photos to flickr for anyone interested in seeing them:

this year is becoming a blur! i can't believe that was a month ago almost to the day. here's a photo i took yesterday morning while on my morning walk. it was one of those moments where i didn't think i got the photo, but then when i looked at my viewfinder, i realized i got it better than i ever imagined:

i love when that happens. |
